Leader in promoting the greater use of DC and hybrid AC/DC microgrids & power systems

IDM Standard Committee

The purpose of the IDM Data Model Standard is to create a universal, open-source framework that standardizes the DC Microgrid equipment interoperability characteristics in a JSON format. This enables seamless interoperability, reduces costs, and ensures safe and efficient integration of microgrid systems globally. Currently, information is fragmented, and access to interoperability data is often expensive. By providing detailed, non-proprietary data, the standard supports both experts and non-experts in designing reliable and compatible microgrid solutions.

The committee objectives are to:

  • Standardize the listing of key product electrical parameters for microgrid system integration.
  • Define specific and typical device characteristics for typical general type of Microgrid device such as source, converter, load, controller, energy storage system, protection, etc.
  • Define a universal framework structured around a JSON model detailing electrical characteristics of devices.

Meeting Schedule: 1st and 4th Friday of each month at 11:00 AM ET.

Current Activities: The committee has reconvened and is reviewing information and use cases to aid in further development and revision of the IDM standard. To submit information or to request an opportunity to present ideas or technologies that should be considered by the committee, use the link below to get details on how.
